Job Summary

To assist Emergency Department Physicians or Residents and Orthopaedic Physicians or Residents in providing exceptional patient care. Duties include, but not limited to, splinting, casting, assisting with minor procedures, wound care, applying fabricated devices, immobilization devices, traction, and overhead frames. Collaborate with Supply Distribution and Sterile Processing to ensure timely delivery of supplies and equipment to nursing staff daily.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain all orthopedic equipment and supplies to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Perform simple, non-sterile dressing changes on wounds under the guidance of a licensed healthcare professional.
  • Apply casts and splints under the direction of physician orders, ensuring accurate and precise application.
  • Apply immobilization and mobilization devices to patients as ordered by physicians, promoting patient comfort and safety.
  • Apply skeletal and manual traction to patients as directed by physicians, ensuring proper alignment and stability.
  • Ensure accurate completion of orders using the practice EMR, maintaining patient records and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with clinical and medical staff to provide special order patient care supplies, ensuring timely delivery and accurate processing.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to infection control protocols and standards.
  • Participate in patient education with other healthcare providers, promoting patient understanding and empowerment.
  • Stock medical supplies and PPE as assigned, ensuring adequate inventory levels and timely restocking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or directors, contributing to the overall success of the team.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Orthopedic or clinical/medical experience preferred. Completion of a Certified Orthopedic Technician certification from NBCOT or ASOP preferred. Heartsaver required.

Additional Information

Team members employed in this job prior to July 1, 2020 are grandfathered under prior educational and experience requirements. In addition, team members must be certification eligible and will have one year to obtain required certification(s).
