Job Summary
To support the Emergency Department Physicians and Residents, and Orthopedic Physicians and Residents, in providing exceptional patient care. Key responsibilities include assisting with splinting, casting, minor procedures, wound care, and applying fabricated devices. Collaborate with Supply Distribution and Sterile Processing to ensure nursing staff has necessary supplies and equipment daily.Key Accountabilities
- Apply and maintain orthopedic devices as ordered by physicians throughout the hospital, monitoring and maintaining all orthopedic equipment and supplies. - 10%
- Perform simple, non-sterile dressing changes on wounds greater than 48 hours old, and assist orthopedic surgeons with procedures as the first and second assistant or scrub technician. - 10%
- Apply cast and splint applications under the direction of physician orders, and apply immobilization and mobilization devices to patients. - 10%
- Apply skeletal and manual traction, and perform daily rounding on orthopedic patients as required. - 10%
- Ensure proper orders are completed using Cerner, and code procedures on inpatient accounts using batch entry for procedures done on patients in the electronic health record system. - 10%
- Work in collaboration with nursing and medical staff to provide special order patient care supplies, maintaining appropriate levels to meet work demand, and participate in patient education with other healthcare providers. - 10%
- Complete daily compliance checks on Blanket warmers in the Emergency Department, and ensure IV fluids are stocked and dated appropriately for expiration dates. - 10%
- Stock Trauma Bay cabinet with special order trays, EZ-IO needles, Arterial Line supplies, pressure bags, and Foley trays, including stocking of all Personal Protective Equipment in the Trauma Bay. - 5%
- Maintain the Sterile Cabinet in the Trauma Bay, ensuring all trays are sterilized and in the cabinet, and when sterile items and trays are used, they must be taken down to sterile prep to be sanitized. - 5%
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned
Required Licensures
Completion of a Certified Orthopedic Technician certification from NBCOT or ASOP required. Heartsaver CPR required.
Other Required Skills/Experience
Basic computer knowledge of Windows operating environment
