Job Summary

Under the direction of the SE Site Director, the Dietitian is responsible for providing and coordinating nutritional care for patients. This role involves evaluating and interpreting current nutrition research, disseminating information to patients, support staff, and healthcare providers, and developing and conducting nutrition education programs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform age-appropriate nutrition assessments, evaluations, and education for patient bases
  • Demonstrate proficiency in age/condition-specific nutrition history taking, including presenting condition, past medical/nutritional history
  • Perform assessments of clients' readiness for change and adjust education goals as appropriate
  • Request lab studies when indicated and discriminate between normal and abnormal lab findings to develop nutrition education plans
  • Establish age-appropriate plans of nutrition care related to patients' identified problems, including medication, nutrition history, education level, and socioeconomic status
  • Consult with other healthcare team members regarding nutrition care plans as necessary and implement plans in a safe and effective manner
  • Document visits in a concise, clear, and logical manner, evaluate the need for follow-up, and recommend appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of previously implemented nutrition education/treatment and develop and provide educational materials and/or programs to patients, families, healthcare professionals
  • Interpret current nutrition research for patients and healthcare staff, accept responsibility for minimizing risk management, and educate patients and staff regarding drug-nutrient interactions
  • Alert appropriate medical staff to the need for immediate intervention of high-risk patients, initiate and coordinate team meetings for high-risk patients, and enhance professional growth and self-development through participation in professional activities, educational programs, current literature review, in-service programs, and workshops
  • Participate in defining nutrition standards, practices, and educational needs of staff who care for the patient population, participate in nutrition research, and serve on appropriate healthcare system committees
  • Provide cross-coverage for other SE sites as needed to cover absences, develop and conduct continuing education programs for healthcare providers, and comply with health and safety requirements and with regulatory agencies such as DPH
  • Comply with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, enhance professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, and attend a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed
Qualifications
  • Masters degree in nutrition specialty from an accredited college/university preferred
  • Active R.D. status with the American Dietetic Association
  • Valid Driver's License and Clean Driving Record Required
  • 1-3 years nutrition experience in a healthcare facility or company, proven experience developing and conducting group nutrition programs
