Position Overview:
The Arizona Department of Transportation is seeking qualified individuals to fill roles within the Highway Operations Technician series. Candidates should possess experience in irrigation systems and the repair of water lines ranging from 1/2" to 2 1/2" PVC. A strong work ethic, positive demeanor, and ability to collaborate effectively with team members are essential.
This series is dedicated to ensuring a safe and efficient transportation network for the public while maintaining professionalism and responsiveness in service delivery. Note: Assignments will be based on the experience and qualifications of the candidates.
Job Responsibilities:
Highway Operations Worker: $ Grade 14
Entry-level position focusing on the operation of vehicles and equipment, pavement maintenance, landscape care, roadside repairs, signage, and compliance with environmental regulations.
Highway Operations Technician 1: $ Grade 17
Apprentice role that involves advanced training in operational duties, including vehicle operation, pavement care, landscape maintenance, and equipment management.
Highway Operations Technician 2: $ Grade 18
Intermediate level position responsible for a variety of highway operational tasks, including supervising others, vehicle operation, and environmental compliance.
Highway Operations Technician 3: $ Grade 19
Advanced role with supervisory responsibilities, overseeing a range of high-level operational duties, including vehicle management and compliance with environmental standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Highway Operations Worker:
Preferred candidates will have at least 6 months of relevant experience in roadway operations, including vehicle operation and maintenance.
Highway Operations Technician 1:
Requires 1 year of job-related experience in roadway operations.
Highway Operations Technician 2:
Requires 2 years of relevant experience.
Highway Operations Technician 3:
Requires 3 years of relevant experience.
Additional Requirements:
All positions require obtaining an Arizona Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within specified timeframes. Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is mandatory for all CDL holders.
