Job Overview

Compensation: $16.94 per hour

Program Introduction:

The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indian's Head Start Program offers a nurturing and culturally relevant preschool environment designed to foster school readiness for children aged 3 to 4 years. Our initiative provides holistic services aimed at ensuring children are current with their health check-ups while promoting their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. We also support families in accessing community resources to enhance their development and reinforce their role as their child's primary educator.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist classroom personnel in creating a developmentally appropriate learning atmosphere for a group of 20 children.
  • Support the implementation of daily lesson plans through active participation in assigned activities.
  • Engage fully in all classroom tasks and responsibilities.
  • Supervise children within the classroom to ensure safety and security at all times.
  • Help with food service logistics and participate in meal times with the children.
  • Monitor children during bus rides to and from school, guiding behavior as necessary.
  • Contribute to daily cleaning and organization of the classroom environment.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of six months of experience in an early childhood education setting (such as Preschool, Head Start, Kindergarten, or Day-Care Center). Alternatively, an associate's or bachelor's degree in any field or enrollment in a degree program is acceptable.

Background Check: Candidates must successfully pass a criminal history background check, including a sex offender registry check, and provide necessary documentation from state or tribal criminal history records, as well as child abuse and neglect registry checks where applicable.

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Understanding of early childhood education environments.
  • Familiarity with preschool classroom dynamics and child behavior.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation and cleaning practices.
  • Proficiency in using standard office equipment (copier, computer, fax, email, scanner).
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively engage with low-income families.
  • Utilize positive strategies for guiding child behavior.
  • Comfortable working with diverse children and families from various backgrounds.
  • Collaborate effectively with other staff members.
  • Demonstrate reliability and punctuality.
  • Exhibit skills in following instructions and completing assigned tasks.
  • Meet the physical demands of the classroom and support the active engagement of young children.
  • Implement positive child guidance techniques that include redirection and sensitivity.
  • Maintain professional boundaries in all interactions.
Additional Requirements:
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR certification within the first month of employment.
  • Acquire a Food Handlers card within 15 days of hire.
  • Complete tuberculosis screening.
  • Demonstrate tolerance and sensitivity while working with children and families.
  • Pass a physical examination and TB testing within the first month of employment.
