Job Title: Teacher of the Handicapped

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Teacher of the Handicapped to join our team at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a key member of our educational team, you will play a vital role in providing a well-developed senior and junior high school level program for classified pupils.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the requirements of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (Common Core) for an academic subject.
  2. Provide instruction that focuses on proficiency levels based on standards developed by the National Council of Teachers and the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards.
  3. Prepare lesson plans that reflect a logical sequence of learning objectives and activities that reflect the National and New Jersey State curriculum standards.
  4. Assess and monitor students' progress frequently and by appropriate means, providing feedback and modifying the lesson as needed.
  5. Report accurate and relevant information regarding student progress and achievement at conferences, IEP meetings, and to administrative staff as needed.
  6. Participate in school-based committees in developing programming and curriculum for the students.
  7. Provide clearly articulated behavioral expectations to students and provide students with feedback and reinforcement regarding their behavior.
  8. Apply the school-wide behavior rewards program and behavioral contracts as directed.
  9. Enforce school rules consistently and contribute to the maintenance of a safe and orderly environment.
  10. Maintain constructive relationships with other staff members.
  11. Maintain positive and appropriate relationships with students.
  12. Seek assistance from appropriate personnel whenever student-related or school-related problems occur.
  13. Implement student-related intervention plans and other plans related to the daily operation of the program as directed by an administrator.
  14. Assist content teachers with modification lesson planning and implementation when needed.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a NJDOE Criminal History Review, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Licenses and Certifications:

A Teacher of the Handicapped or one of the following certifications WITH a NJDOE Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification (or in the process of obtaining): K-8, K-12 with subject area or 7-12 with subject area.
