Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Survey Crew Chief provides survey support to the Resident Engineer on projects to ensure construction compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and codified requirements. This role involves assisting with land surveys, conducting research, and generating accurate documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from property/utility records, deeds, land/property titles, structural plans, and other matrices for land surveying activities.
  • Perform various types of property surveys on projects of basic complexity and/or scope, including boundary, existing condition, topographic, as-built, subdivision, and profile maps.
  • Provide basic professional survey assistance, ensuring accurate survey data and conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, boundaries, and construction specifications.
  • Assist with surveyor activities for projects of a basic scope and complexity within a region.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to site inspection and survey findings using photographs, sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and reports.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks and work collaboratively with other professionals, engineers, scientists, technicians, and project administrators on assigned survey tasks.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, studies, and surveys.
  • Remain current in the latest survey knowledge, techniques, and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and adhere to professional conduct and KLJ's policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma.
  • Associate's degree in Surveying, Geospatial, or closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant post-education experience in discipline with prior surveying experience with easements, rights of way, plats, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, property descriptions, and GPS surveys.
  • Familiar with land survey principles, practices, process, methods, and techniques.
  • Familiar with relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Excellent research and evaluation skills with analytical mindset.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with survey equipment (e.g. Leica Robotic Total Station), Auto Cad, Civil 3D, Microstation, and/or Geopak.
