POSITION SUMMARY:
Accountable for a range of routine safety and emergency security functions aimed at protecting students, staff, visitors, patients, and property. Acts as the primary responder to all emergency situations within the designated facility.
Responsible for the safe de-escalation of critical incidents and exercising sound judgment when engaging with combative or escalating individuals.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of two years in general security, military, or other public safety roles where the ability to carry a firearm as part of regular duties is required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience demonstrating responsible weapon handling and use of force.
Valid Driver's License and compliance with Piedmont's Healthcare Vehicle Safety Program policy 3500.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification as a Healthcare Security Officer (IAHSS) is required within one year of employment.
Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certification is preferred.
Ability to carry non-lethal weapons such as a Taser CEW and/or baton is required.
Possession of a company-issued firearm is mandatory.
Must successfully complete pre-employment psychological evaluations.
Must fulfill and maintain all training requirements for continued employment, including certifications in Firearms, Taser, ASP Baton, Mental Health First Aid, and others as directed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Exhibit Piedmont values and deliver exceptional customer service to all patients, staff, and visitors within a Piedmont facility.
Conduct screening for and intercept weapons entering the facility.
Maintain security across the hospital, professional buildings, and parking areas.
Engage in various routine safety and emergency security tasks.
Document incidents and conduct initial investigations.
Actively monitor at-risk patients and de-escalate challenging situations.
Respond appropriately to aggressive behaviors and apply physical restraints when necessary.
Make informed decisions regarding the use of force, including lethal force, to ensure a safe environment.
Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all job-related interactions.
Document actions in the medical record.
Enforce all PHC policies, regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
Direct traffic as needed.
Assist patients and visitors by providing directions and responding to emergencies.
Promote crime prevention and a secure work environment through observation, interaction, and intervention.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to demonstrate basic literacy and effective interpersonal communication skills.
Capable of learning and operating computerized security systems, concealed weapons screening systems, CCTV monitoring equipment, and standard two-way radios.
