Position Overview
Are you an accomplished leader with a passion for environmental stewardship and sustainability? The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a dedicated Environmental Sustainability Supervisor to oversee a comprehensive waste management and recycling initiative. This role is essential in maintaining cleanliness and promoting eco-friendly practices within our parks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the daily operations of waste collection, recycling, and disposal within the parks.
  • Design and implement strategies aimed at minimizing waste production, enhancing recycling efforts, and fostering composting practices.
  • Ensure the upkeep and proper servicing of waste management facilities, including dumpsters and recycling stations.
  • Guarantee compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Prepare detailed reports on waste management activities and environmental impact for regulatory agencies and park administration.
  • Manage procurement processes for waste management supplies and services, including contracts with external vendors.
  • Supervise and mentor waste management personnel, including recruitment, training, and performance assessments.
  • Conduct educational programs for staff on waste management protocols and sustainability practices.
  • Develop outreach initiatives to inform park visitors about responsible waste disposal and recycling.
  • Address public inquiries and concerns regarding waste management policies and practices.
  • Formulate and execute comprehensive waste management plans aligned with sustainability objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of waste management programs, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Promote sustainable practices and innovative technologies in waste management.
  • Oversee contractor performance to ensure adherence to service agreements and quality standards.
  • Prepare administrative and budget reports related to waste management operations.
  • Engage in project planning and coordination, ensuring successful execution of park development initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages communication and team cohesion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and various web/mobile applications.
  • Strong project management and planning skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental laws and policies.
  • Ability to communicate in multiple languages is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in park management, environmental science, or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience in park operations and staff supervision; or

2. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Valid driver's license required.

Work Environment
This position involves a mix of fieldwork and office duties, with potential exposure to various environmental conditions. The role requires readiness for on-call duties during emergencies.
