Position Overview:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team by assisting physicians with essential tasks that cater to the needs of the practice while operating within the full extent of their licensure.

Qualifications:

Must possess a valid LPN license in the state of practice.

Experience Requirements:

Preferred but not mandatory: one year of experience in a healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide patients to examination rooms and prepare them for evaluations or treatments by recording vital statistics such as height, weight, respiration, blood pressure, and temperature. Additionally, conduct patient interviews to gather medical history, allergies, and medication reconciliations as required.
  • Process prescriptions after securing authorization from the attending surgeon or provider for all relevant medical personnel.
  • Manage insurance referrals through email, fax, or phone, ensuring to follow up with the specialist to provide referral numbers as needed.
  • Facilitate efficient departmental operations by covering for other LPNs, clinical assistants, and medical office assistants as necessary. Handle incoming calls and perform clerical duties, prioritizing calls based on urgency. Maintain proficiency in computer systems and software as required.
  • Ensure examination and procedure rooms are well-stocked and orderly, maintaining cleanliness and organization. Order medications or clinical supplies as needed.
  • Administer prescribed injections and medications, documenting them accurately in the patient's medical record.
  • Direct patients post-examination to appropriate areas for ancillary testing or follow-up appointments, such as laboratory work or imaging services.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of medications, including potential side effects and contraindications.
  • Review pathology results with patients effectively.
  • Set up and dismantle sterile fields as necessary.
  • Have a basic understanding of surgical instruments and prepare surgical trays for daily procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform tasks as assigned within the scope of LPN licensure.
  • Participate in orientation for new employees and attend mandatory training sessions and in-services as required by the organization.
  • Adhere to the organization's dress code policy.
  • Engage in departmental meetings and contribute to achieving departmental and organizational goals.
