COMMERCIAL BANKING TEAM LEADER
WHAT IS THE ROLE?This position is responsible for developing and overseeing a team of Commercial Banking Relationship Managers (CBRMs) within a designated area.
Directs and organizes the efforts of CBRMs to achieve regional objectives, including sales targets, client satisfaction, and effective credit quality and risk oversight.
Establishes individual performance targets and aids CBRMs in crafting their sales strategies. Collaborates closely with CBRMs to ensure that established goals and targets are achieved. Reviews and authorizes transactions within the designated authority for both CBRMs and may assist the branches in the region when necessary. Oversees the overall production, profitability, and credit risk associated with business banking in the area.In conjunction with Regional Banking Managers (RBMs), accountable for the region achieving business banking performance benchmarks, including loan, deposit, and fee income targets.
May accompany CBRMs on joint visits to more intricate client relationships and to support their ongoing professional development.Ensures that CBRMs deliver exceptional service to clients, recognizing and promoting solutions to meet customer needs, while maintaining an active outreach program.
80% Shares responsibility with the Business Banking Manager and RBM for recruiting and retaining CBRMs in their designated area.
Sets performance objectives, reviews and approves individual sales strategies, and monitors outcomes to align with sales and service goals. Manages the sales process, including new client acquisition, referrals, cross-selling, and retention initiatives. Engages in joint calling activities with CBRMs and, when appropriate, with other sales team members.Provides necessary coaching and identifies and nurtures a talent pipeline for CBRMs in the region.20% Assists other departments and colleagues within the bank as required.
Offers project management support to the Director of Business Banking as needed. Promotes the bank's business banking brand within the assigned market. May assist RBMs in leadership initiatives supporting the business banking segment.Participates in community and industry-related activities as a representative of the bank, promoting and attracting new talent and clients.
What you will accomplish:1.Collaborates with each CBRM to develop their outreach and relationship strategies, which include identifying business opportunities from both existing clients and potential prospects.
Sets individual performance targets encompassing loan, deposit, and fee income growth, as well as portfolio contributions. Provides ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance evaluations.- Accompanies CBRMs on visits to more complex client relationships or transactions to further enhance their skill set. Reviews structural options with CBRMs to optimize opportunities. May suggest involving product specialists as needed to assist in problem-solving or structuring transactions.
- Offers support in negotiating complex transactions, ensuring compliance with bank policies and regulatory standards. Ensures sound credit and risk judgment is applied.
- Facilitates the development of branch colleagues to ensure their success in their roles and prepare them for future career growth.
- Represents the bank by actively engaging in civic and community activities, business and industry organizations, and other professional engagements as appropriate.
- Coordinates with other bank departments, including branches within the assigned area, as necessary. Defines responsibilities and aligns objectives for all product areas involved in a relationship or transaction. Addresses all client needs and resolves any internal issues.
- Monitors and assesses the region's business banking performance and account activities. Reviews portfolio and client profitability, making recommendations regarding accounts to be further developed or discontinued. Prepares reports for management review.
- Monitors the quality, risk, and policy adherence of the region's business banking portfolio. Collaborates with relevant staff departments to resolve issues.
- Maintains awareness of competitive products, practices, rates, and shifts in market conditions.
- Analyzes problem credits and provides CBRMs with recommendations or solutions to mitigate loss exposure.
- Supports the Director of Business Banking on initiatives aimed at enhancing the division's performance in this segment.
- Provides industry expertise for the region and the division.
Collaborate with Financial Advisors (FAs) and/or Investment Officers (IOs) to communicate with clients regarding current market conditions, investment options, asset allocation, and performance, reviewing asset management and brokerage account statements.
Discuss strategy adjustments with FAs and/or IOs.Must-Have Qualifications:*Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
*A minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial lending or relationship management is required.
*At least 3 years of experience managing commercial relationship managers is required.
*A minimum of 5 years of credit experience is required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Proven leadership, management, sales, and marketing skills.
- Strong understanding of all products and services relevant to the target client segment.
- Thorough knowledge of the bank's products and services and the overall sales process, with a focus on client segmentation and performance metrics.
- Excellent knowledge of commercial credit policies and procedures, as well as bank operations policies and procedures.
- Strong credit analysis and accounting capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing sales colleagues and effectively manage results through a team.
- Ability to work independently in making sound business decisions and exercising appropriate authority based on experience and responsibility.
- Capability to build positive relationships within the Personal & Business Banking Division and throughout the bank, establishing professional credibility through integrity, dedication, and strategic guidance.
- Must inspire confidence and respect in staff and motivate colleagues to achieve individual, division, and company objectives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; must convey complex concepts clearly and concisely.
Compensation:
Starting base salary: $122,535 - $208,715 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
