The COMET contract encompasses comprehensive management and execution of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These responsibilities will aid in the support of the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

The chosen candidate will be responsible for the daily operations of the Ground Support Technical Operations (GSTO) team, contributing to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Artemis program. This role involves supporting Launch Vehicle Processing, Testing, and Validation of both flight and ground systems.

As an Operational Technician, you will support Launch Vehicle Processing, Testing, and Validation of Artemis flight hardware and related ground systems. Additionally, you will interpret engineering drawings and adhere to strict work area rules and safety protocols; passing a SCAPE Physical and maintaining a security clearance is required; you must also be able to support shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime as necessary.



Job Requirements:

Qualifications - External

Qualifications: A High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience or equivalent technical training.

A background in mechanical and/or electrical fields, particularly in aviation or aerospace, is highly desirable.

Candidates must be able to follow work instructions, interpret engineering drawings, and adhere to strict work area rules and safety protocols.

Strong communication skills are essential.

Some familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is required.

Candidates must be able to pass a SCAPE Physical and maintain a security clearance.

Availability for shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime when required is necessary.

Essential Functions:

Physical Requirements: Duties may include handling and transporting hazardous waste (if qualified).

Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Ability to distinguish between colors (e.g., blue and green wires).

Compliance with safety policies and regulations is mandatory.

Must be able to climb ladders, towers, and stairs.

Physical exertion in climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, carrying, or working in confined spaces may be required.

Work Environment: All work must be conducted safely in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.

Work will primarily be performed indoors, but fieldwork may involve both indoor and outdoor settings depending on the project.

Working at heights and in confined spaces may be necessary.

Equipment and Machines: Operate and maintain handling equipment such as forklifts (up to 20K) and other area-specific Material Handling Equipment.

Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents, and record work performance.

Attendance: Work assignments typically consist of 8-hour shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.

Dependability and punctuality are essential.

Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, may be required to meet demanding schedules.

Other Essential Functions: US Citizenship is required.

Ability to obtain certifications necessary for operating Material Handling Equipment.

Requires effective interaction with co-workers and managers.

Must be able to communicate ideas accurately in both written and verbal forms.

Government security clearance may be required in the future.

Must pass a federal background investigation.

Grooming and attire must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk to oneself or others.

Compliance with all "drug-free workplace" requirements as mandated by federal contracting directives is necessary, which includes drug testing for employees in sensitive positions.

A valid Florida Class D motor vehicle license is required.
