Role Summary:

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist plays a vital role in the healthcare system by examining samples of blood, tissue, and bodily fluids to ascertain their chemical composition, cell counts, drug concentrations, or blood types. This position may also involve identifying specific microorganisms such as bacteria or parasites.

Key responsibilities include preparing samples for analysis, utilizing advanced automated equipment and specialized tools, conducting multiple complex tests concurrently, and accurately interpreting the results to support clinical decisions.


Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field in chemistry or biology, including the necessary semester hours and one year of clinical laboratory training in compliance with relevant regulations.


Preferred Credentials:

Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or an equivalent certification is highly desirable. Current experience in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, or blood banking is also preferred.

Variable hours
Availability to cover weekends and holidays as required.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Conducts chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluids to identify normal and abnormal components.
  • Processes and receives samples of blood, urine, and other bodily fluids.
  • Performs and interprets clinical laboratory tests, providing critical data for disease diagnosis and treatment.
  • Analyzes blood cells through counting and identification using microscopic techniques.
  • Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting compatibility tests.
  • Ensures laboratory equipment operates efficiently by performing calibration, preventive maintenance, and quality control measures.
  • Maintains accurate records of all data obtained and organizes work to meet deadlines.
  • Manages laboratory inventory by monitoring stock levels and ordering supplies as necessary.
  • Contributes to team objectives by achieving related results.
