Job Summary

The Virginia Cooperative Extension is seeking a highly skilled Regional Veterinary Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing regional risk assessment, evaluating diagnostic assay capabilities, and developing response preparedness strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement regional risk assessment strategies in coordination with national leadership.
  • Evaluate current diagnostic assay capabilities and develop novel tests, systems, and procedures to recognize emerging animal disease threats.
  • Develop response preparedness strategies, including gap and needs analysis, supply stockpiles, and realistic evaluations.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other national members to ensure program products can be applied to the greatest extent possible.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • Experience with ISO 17025 standards.
  • Advanced training with expertise in high throughput sequencing or molecular diagnostics.
  • Experience or interest in epidemiology and risk assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Collaborative research experience with other life sciences-oriented departments, colleges, and institutes.
  • Opportunities to develop translational research programs.

Working Conditions

This is a 12-month faculty position with a salary commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
