As a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist at NYC Health + Hospitals, you will play a vital role in planning, organizing, and implementing Therapeutic Recreation programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of patients. Your expertise will be instrumental in creating a safe and engaging environment that promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement individualized schedules for patients, incorporating activities of daily living, arts, therapy, and socialization to meet their unique needs.
- Teach and lead recreational activities, such as group and team games, arts and crafts, dances, gymnastics, and dramatics, to promote behavioral changes and increased self-awareness.
- Collaborate with treatment staff to coordinate effective patient care and participate in patient groups, ensuring a comprehensive approach to treatment.
- Document patient progress and maintain accurate records, providing valuable insights for treatment planning and evaluation.
- Work with students, volunteers, and other multidisciplinary teams to enhance the therapeutic recreation program and promote a culture of excellence.
- Attend and contribute to departmental meetings, in-service training programs, and community events to stay updated on best practices and industry developments.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 18 credits in Recreation, Physical Education, Dance, Fine Arts, Applied Arts, and 12 credits in Psychology, Social Psychology, Group Work, and/or related fields.
- One year of full-time experience in planning, coordinating, and supervising a recreation activities program in a hospital or healthcare setting.
