Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the day-to-day nursing activities in a long term care facility. The ideal candidate will possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN in Illinois and have excellent leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe residents for changes in their condition and report these changes to the appropriate physician and other healthcare professionals.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Meet with nursing staff and supportive personnel to plan shift services, programs, and activities.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as necessary.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
  • Chart nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner.
  • Perform routine charting duties as required.
  • Order prescribed medications and recommend supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Review medication administrative records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review resident care plans for appropriateness and ensure that nurses' notes reflect the care plan.
  • Ensure that all nursing service personnel are knowledgeable of residents' rights and responsibilities.
  • Review complaints and grievances made by residents and make a written/oral report to the Executive Director.
Requirements
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines governing dietary functions.
  • Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain a positive professional manner, manage time efficiently and effectively, promote a team approach, and participate in appropriate problem-solving methods.
  • Must ensure all care is provided with respect and dignity for residents, report all complaints made by residents and/or families to supervisor, and report all allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds/resident property, or any other compliance items immediately.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive information about residents, family, employees, and IPH residents.
  • Must enjoy working with the senior population.
  • Must perform job duties in a manner that aligns with the IPH mission of providing a gracious senior living in a Christian surrounding.
