Interventional Radiology Technologist

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our interventional radiology department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and technical expertise in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a resource to employees and students, providing training, orientation, and day-to-day work direction, and giving input on performance.
- Assign, monitor, and review progress and accuracy of work, monitor productivity, maintain appropriate staffing levels, direct efforts, and provide guidance on more complex issues.
- Assist with human resource responsibilities, including interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, providing performance feedback, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale.
- Assist in interpreting department policies and procedures, and advise and update staff on procedural changes. Identify performance improvement opportunities within the department and facilitate change.
- Serve as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff. Facilitate clinical problem solving and collaborate with other departments across the system to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other imaging department processes and procedures.
- Proficiently operate angiographic and ultrasound equipment used to perform basic to advanced procedures on inpatients and outpatients. Perform and be proficient with all procedures if performed at assigned facility, including vertebro and kyphoplasty, carotid and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) stenting, cerebral intervention, embolization, coiling/stenting, and angiograms, chemotherapy and thera sphere embolization, cryo and Radio Frequency (RF) ablation, and graft placement.
- Assist with interventional and surgical procedures as a scrub assistant, with competent knowledge of equipment and equipment options while working seamlessly with the attending and resident physicians. Serve as a resource to physicians on procedural equipment options.
- Act as a scrub assistant on interventional and surgical procedures, receiving direction from attending and resident physicians. Identify and process images, assuring images are of diagnostic quality. Assist clinical staff engineering in evaluating digital equipment to maintain consistent film quality. Post-process images as directed and accurately identify and label images, identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
- Oversee the maintenance of records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enter patient and study information into the radiology information system, and document billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
- Identify equipment performance issues and ensure and/or perform equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluate new products and equipment.
- Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
- Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin, and
- Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months, and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
- Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in an Interventional Radiologic Technologist role.
- Advanced knowledge in radiology positioning and techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of basic radiation safety and aseptic techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of anatomy that includes vascular and/or cerebral.
- Advanced knowledge of embolic and thrombolytic materials, physiologic monitoring equipment, and surgical scrub technique to be able to assist the provider.
- Advanced knowledge of accreditation policies and procedures to assist in facilitation of departmental accreditation.
- Proficiency in suturing vascular access sheaths.
- Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem solving, and decision making.
- Ability to act as a role model and to hold staff accountable to Aurora's service commitments.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills to work effectively with a diverse group of providers, patients, and other staff members.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Must have clear speech, vision, and hearing.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
