Job Summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a skilled Histology Technician Level II to join our team in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine lab functions to produce high-quality histologic preparations for examination.
  • Process tissues, including fixation, dehydration, clearing, and impregnation with paraffin wax.
  • Embed tissues accurately and efficiently, meeting cutting standards of 50 blocks per hour and 30 slides per hour.
  • Prepare slides, including floating sections, collecting on glass slides, drying, and staining with routine and special stains.
  • Conduct quality control checks, examining slides with a microscope and ensuring blocks and slides are correct.
  • Modify techniques and apparatus as needed to meet quality standards.
  • Participate in rapid frozen section diagnosis, preparing specimens using liquid nitrogen and a cryostat microtome, and staining frozen sections.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents, maintaining accurate records of blocks and slides, and utilizing the LIS system for daily operations.
  • Provide off-hours coverage, responsible for pager coverage on a rotating basis.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a high school degree or graduate of an NCCALS-approved school of Histotechnology.
  • 5 years of clinical experience, or 4-5 years of histology experience in a research setting, or Histology Specialist A certification.
  • HT, HTL (ASCP) certified or eligible.
