Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY
The individual in this role is tasked with the upkeep and sanitation of designated municipal parks or areas. Responsibilities encompass aiding in the routine upkeep of parks, sports fields, golf courses, and recreational facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gathering and disposing of litter and waste on municipal park grounds;
  • Mowing lawns, collecting leaves, and assisting with snow clearance as required by the season;
  • Setting up golf courses for daily operations.
  • Employing machinery to carry out maintenance tasks across all municipal parks, sports fields, and the golf course.
  • Executing additional related tasks as necessary.
  • Maintaining sports fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts within the Parks Division.
  • Assisting with irrigation repairs at sports fields and the golf course.
  • Ensuring playground equipment is safe and well-maintained in all parks managed by the Parks Division.

Facility Maintenance

  • Performing cleaning duties that include sanitizing tables post-use; vacuuming; dusting surfaces, windowsills, and furniture; cleaning interior windows as needed; restocking paper towels and toilet paper in dispensers;
  • Monitoring hallways and outdoor areas to ensure both security and cleanliness;
  • Reporting any necessary repairs for safety or security concerns;
  • Acting as a point of contact for ongoing activities within the facility;
  • Setting up and dismantling meeting spaces, studios, and event halls for upcoming functions;
  • Providing additional assistance for park maintenance, recreation staff, and management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Familiarity with materials commonly utilized in construction, maintenance, and repair tasks relevant to assigned areas;
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, standard cleaning practices, turf maintenance techniques, and operation of equipment used in park upkeep.
  • Capability to use basic hand tools;
  • Ability to operate vehicles and other maintenance machinery such as mowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, paint sprayers, hand tools, and saws;
  • Capacity to follow written and/or verbal job instructions and/or team assignments;
  • Ability to obtain a valid commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements as needed;
  • Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks consistently;
  • Ability to exert continuous physical effort, including frequent bending, walking, and lifting heavy equipment.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid driver's license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position involves heavy lifting, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, pushing, pulling, reaching, speaking, standing for extended periods, talking, visual activity, and prolonged walking. The employee frequently lifts light objects and utilizes tools or equipment that require dexterity.
