Senior Estimator for Heavy Civil Construction

As a Senior Estimator at Mastec Civil, LLC, you will play a crucial role in the success of our company. Your primary responsibility will be to estimate and manage projects from start to finish, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Job DescriptionThe ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy civil construction, with a minimum of 13 years of experience in estimating and project management. You will be responsible for:
- Understanding bid items, basis of estimate, skills to identify errors and discrepancies in plans, and specifications, and solutions;
- Wide understanding reading plans, specifications, request for proposal, request for information, addendums, technical special provisions, etc.;
- Building green sheet estimate, breakdown activity structure, construction schedule, and risk matrix analysis;
- Creating job budget for awarded contracts;
- Understanding bid strategy, cost savings initiative, and management skills;
- Performing accurate, and within the time frame quantity takeoffs;
- Capable to individually estimate an entire job;
- Studying and reviewing all estimating reports: equipment total hrs., labor total hrs., key indicators, equipment balance analysis, etc.;
- Constantly reviewing updated FDOT Standards and Specifications;
- Fully reviewing bid submittal package, and leading estimating discussion with company executives;
- Obtaining clarifications on plans and specifications from owner or engineer of records;
- Coordinating and inviting suppliers and subcontractors to quote different scope of work;
- Analyzing suppliers and subcontractor pricing input when required;
- Building and strengthening subcontractor and supplier relationship;
- Completing understanding of unit cost analyzes;
- Assisting to pre-bid meeting and bid submittals;
- Keeping updated information regarding commodity trade prices;
- Keeping looking construction technologies and techniques;
- Maintaining continue education in construction: assist to engineering convention, forum, etc.;
- Continuing communication with field personnel (project engineer, superintendent, foreman, fleet manager, etc.) to track and adjust as necessary unit costs;
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 13 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a focus on estimating and project management;
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Strong communication and leadership skills;
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Knowledge of FDOT Standards and Specifications;
- Experience with estimating software and tools;
- Ability to travel frequently and work long hours as needed;
