Job Summary

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Radiology Technologist to join our team in Libertyville, Illinois.

This is a full-time position with a 40-hour workweek, including evenings. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating x-ray equipment to produce high-quality radiographs of designated body parts, as ordered by physicians.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of radiographic principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate x-ray equipment to produce high-quality radiographs of designated body parts, as ordered by physicians.
  • Accountable for the performance and documentation of all diagnostic procedures, utilizing proper technical parameters to produce quality studies.
  • Knowledgeable in the safe use, maneuverability, and operation of all general radiography, portable, and fluoro equipment.
  • Proficient in the performance of general diagnostic procedures, including general fluoroscopy procedures, if applicable.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, isolation, and sterile techniques in patient handling and delivery of care.
  • Adhere to ALARA principles in performance of exams to reduce exposure to self, patients, and others.
  • Utilize proper patient identification to ensure the correct exam is performed on the correct patient at the correct time.
  • Obtain and record pertinent patient history, explain the procedure to the patient in a manner to ensure understanding, and ensure patient comfort during the performance of the exam.
  • Adhere to department standards of radiographic quality, including reviewing radiographs to ensure optimum quality, reporting environmental/equipment problems, and performing required computer functions for RIS/HIS systems.
  • Label all radiographs appropriately, following department-established criteria and standards.
  • Consistently maintain an attitude of professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration with co-workers, physicians, and internal customers/departments.
  • Consistently provide positive interactions and a customer-first approach with patients and their families/caregivers and visitors.
  • Participate in assessment of own learning needs and actively seek opportunities for increased competency and growth, including attending in-services, CPR classes, and maintaining state license and national board certification.
  • Maintain supplies needed to ensure adequate levels for quality patient care, including ensuring cleanliness of equipment and work area, maintaining inventory of supplies, and using Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • IEMA Accreditation in Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT (RT) Certification or Certificate Eligible, with ARRT obtained within 1 year of hire for new graduates.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good communication skills.
  • Understanding of RIS & PACS.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations.
  • Ability to handle patient information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to adapt to fluctuations in patient volumes to meet patient care and department needs.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays to accommodate patient care needs.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings.
  • Ability to take call and arrive on site within one hour.
  • May be exposed to radiation during procedures.
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time or be required to lift and move patients.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious disease, and required to participate in annual emergency drills.
  • Required to maintain current CPR certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance, with patient handling equipment used for heavier lifts or patient assistance.
