Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must meet the specialized experience requirements outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, specifically for Professional and Scientific Roles.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: A degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics, including 24 semester hours in physical science or related engineering disciplines.

OR

Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to the above that includes at least 24 semester hours in physical science or related engineering fields, along with relevant experience or additional education.

In addition to the basic requirement, candidates must also meet the following specialized experience criteria:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

FOR GS-11: One year of specialized experience that provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position, typically related to analytical chemistry for environmental samples.

FOR GS-12: One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent, involving complex physical science studies and independent scientific work.

FOR GS-13: One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent, focusing on research design and analysis.

FOR GS-14: One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, including management planning and interdisciplinary project oversight.

FOR GS-15: One year of specialized experience at the GS-14 level or equivalent, leading research initiatives and publishing findings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Candidates will be evaluated based on their knowledge of environmental science principles, problem-solving skills, and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

Education:

If education is being used to qualify, official transcripts must be submitted.
