Job Overview

In this position, you will collaborate closely with the Department Manager to advance technology initiatives in power electronics at Hitachi Data Systems.

Your primary responsibility will be to comprehend customer system specifications and partner with a global engineering team to design and develop inverters that fulfill customer requirements.

This encompasses electrical circuit design, component selection, circuit analysis, and testing of power electronics products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support development and localization efforts for new xEV power electronics projects within Hitachi Data Systems.
  • Plan and oversee activities for multiple projects to ensure objectives are met within designated timelines.
  • Assess and utilize customer engineering specifications, collaborating with the global team to deliver optimal inverter designs for various applications.
  • Facilitate effective and timely technical communication regarding inverter programs between OEM customers and the design teams in the US and Japan, as well as related manufacturing sites.
  • Engage with design engineering teams in the US and Japan for original design initiatives, existing design enhancements, performance validation, and production launch activities for xEV inverters across diverse automotive powertrain applications.
  • Prepare engineering documentation to support product design, including eBOM, RPL, IMDS, etc.
  • Provide on-site support to internal inverter manufacturing facilities for various engineering tasks during sample and mass production phases.
  • Assist with product pricing, quoting, and cost analysis activities as needed.
  • Create various technical data and information documents using industry-standard software programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SolidWorks, ANSYS).
  • Support product validation testing, prototype development, and other engineering deliverables throughout the product lifecycle.
  • International travel may be required based on business needs.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or related field)
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in designing automotive power electronics, particularly analog and digital circuits (drive inverters preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience in embedded hardware design for automotive power electronics.
  • Proficient in analysis, simulation, design, development, and testing of power electronics.
  • Understanding of electrified vehicle systems and their integration.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and suppliers to communicate technical documents and information.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills (Six Sigma training preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics.
  • A minimum of 7 years of practical experience and proven achievements in Power Electronics circuit design.
  • Experience with SolidWorks for 3-D CAD and 2-D drawing creation.
  • Familiarity with Mechanical CAE (thermal, structural, etc.).
  • Experience with quotation processes (BOM estimation, etc.) for new products.
  • Demonstrated success in leading organized teams.
  • Fluency in both English and Japanese is preferred.

Working Conditions:
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Occasional lifting or moving of up to 40 pounds may be required. Must be able to carry equipment up and down stairs. Overtime may be necessary.

Travel:
Some domestic and international travel may be required, up to 20%. A valid driver's license is necessary.
