About the Job

The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a skilled Psychiatrist to join our team. As a Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric assessment and treatment to offenders within the department. This includes coordination of care with QMHPs, nurse practitioners, and other physicians, as well as referral of offenders to programs and services as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform psychiatric assessments through direct observation, interviews, review of prior records, laboratory and imaging results, and medical history.
  • Provide direct psychiatric services to an identified population of mentally ill offenders, including assessing the need for and prescribing appropriate psychotropic medication.
  • Operate as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, seeking relevant input from team members in a proactive fashion.
  • Provide consultation services to general medical providers, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and QMHPs.
  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner using standard SOAP format and ensure documentation is filed appropriately in the medical record.
Requirements
  • Hold a valid medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) and have completed an approved psychiatric residency.
  • Be board-eligible or board-certified in general adult psychiatry and licensed to practice medicine without restrictions within the state of Oregon.
  • Maintain a valid individual federal DEA certification and an up-to-date CPR certification.
