A typical day in this role:

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting a dedicated team of software, systems, and security engineers focused on the creation and implementation of communication and collection-based analytical tools aimed at serving the greater good. Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate user needs to establish software design and performance criteria.
  • Identify and rectify issues in existing software.
  • Propose enhancements for documentation and software development standards.
  • Integrate current software into newly developed or modified systems or environments.
  • Create basic data queries for existing or proposed databases or data stores.
  • Lead a team in accordance with the software development methodology applied to specific projects.
  • Design or implement intricate database(s) or data repository interfaces/queries.
  • Develop or execute algorithms to meet or surpass system performance and functional standards.
  • Assist in formulating and executing testing protocols for software components.
  • Craft software solutions by assessing system performance standards, collaborating with users or system engineers, analyzing system flow, data usage, and operational processes, and investigating problem areas.
  • Modify existing software to fix errors, adapt to new hardware, or enhance performance.
  • Design, develop, and adjust software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to forecast and assess outcomes and implications of designs.
  • Design and implement complex algorithms that require strict adherence to timing, resource, or interface constraints; ensure quality control on team outputs.
  • Implement suggestions for improving documentation and software development standards.
  • Oversee one or more software development teams, ensuring compliance with the software development process relevant to each project.
  • Collaborate with system and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and gather information on project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
Qualifications:
  • Over 20 years of experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope and complexity.
  • Proven expertise in at least two of the following areas: High Frequency (HF), Very High Frequency (VHF), Ultra High Frequency (UHF), Cellular Protocols, WiFi, Angle of Arrival (AOA), Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA), or Frequency Difference of Arrival (FDOA).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in developing software for communication and collection solutions.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution, or 4 years of additional software engineering experience in similar projects may substitute for a degree.
  • An active US Government TS/SCI security clearance with Polygraph is required.
