Job SummaryThe Utility Locator Technician will be responsible for locating and marking County-owned water and wastewater utility lines and services. This includes receiving and responding to work tickets and locate requests, traveling to site, reading maps, and taking photos to update maps and computer databases.
Key Responsibilities- Locate water and wastewater utility lines and services, including mains, fire hydrants, fire lines, manholes, water meters, service connections, valves, and other utilities.
- Receive and respond to work tickets and locate requests, and travel to site to perform locates.
- Read maps and take photos to update maps and computer databases.
- Investigate damage to water and wastewater utility lines due to excavation, and take photos, make drawings, and provide other detailed documentation of work site, lines, and markings.
- Analyze information and make recommendations regarding liability of damage, and prepare and submit related documentation and reports.
- Perform related duties such as reporting water and wastewater leaks, backups, missing or damaged equipment, or other issues, and issue warnings and citations for violations regarding water use.
- Ensure right of way are clear of signs and obstructions, and assist in shutdown of mains for repairs and connections.
- Adhere to established safety procedures, monitor work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals, and flag and direct traffic and place markers, signs, and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public.
- Respond to complaints and questions related to utility line locates, provide information, research problems, and initiate problem resolution, and resolve situations involving complex issues.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Three years of experience in utility services or related field, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
The Utility Locator Technician will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel to site and exposure to varying weather conditions. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
