Principal Machine Learning Engineer for Inclusive Technologies

We're seeking an experienced Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join our Inclusive AI team, which focuses on driving cross-functional engineering efforts in ML Fairness and user-facing features that make our product more inclusive.
This role requires a strong technical leader who can work with the team to define and drive technical strategy in this area. You'll have the opportunity to work on various innovative projects, develop state-of-the-art machine learning approaches with inclusion as a core principle, and deliver great impact to our Pinners and business.
About the Role- Lead projects in responsible AI, identifying, avoiding, and mitigating bias across ML applications at Pinterest, including generative AI.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to leverage their platforms and signals and work together on adopting and evaluating Inclusive AI and ML Fairness tooling across Pinterest.
- Mentor junior engineers on the Inclusive AI team and across the company on Inclusive AI/ML Fairness.
- Work with the team and senior leaders to define and drive technical strategy in this area.
We need an experienced engineer with production experience in ML and responsible technology deployments in production systems. You should be familiar with state-of-the-art ML approaches, especially within Search and RecSys space, such as transformer-based architectures, n-tower architectures, LLMs, etc. Additionally, you'll need hands-on experience building, deploying, and measuring ML Fairness at scale. Leadership experience is also essential, with the ability to define a vision, strategy, and plans, along with executing them to deliver solutions in production that positively impact users.
A minimum of 8 years' experience working in engineering teams building large-scale ML-driven user-facing products is required, along with 3+ years' experience leading cross-team engineering efforts. A Master's or Ph.D. in Comp Sci or related fields is necessary. Experience working on backend and ML systems for large-scale user-facing products, with a good understanding of how they all work, is also a must.
