Position Summary

The Cardiothoracic Surgery program at Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute is looking for a dedicated full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to enhance our expanding team. This role involves working autonomously in both inpatient hospital and operating room environments, collaborating closely with a supervising physician and a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Focus on surgical procedures, particularly in thoracic surgery, providing first assistance in both open and minimally invasive thoracic surgeries, including robotic lung operations.
  • Deliver a comprehensive range of surgical and medical interventions, demonstrating proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting and assisting in various cardiothoracic surgeries.
  • Maintain clinical and professional expertise relevant to the age, developmental stages, and specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Participate in a rotating schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Essential Qualifications

  • Possess a thorough understanding of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative protocols.
  • Demonstrate strong familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Engage in the education and training of APP students, fellows, and new hires as appropriate.
  • Attend and actively participate in required meetings and educational sessions within Atrium Health and Sanger.
  • Exhibit the ability to work independently and efficiently, showcasing strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on prioritization and concentration.
  • Collaborate effectively with a diverse team of physicians and APPs to manage and coordinate patient care.

Position Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program, with licensure to practice in North and South Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license are mandatory. BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA are required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: A Master's Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice is required, along with licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification from a nationally recognized body.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program is required; a Master's Degree is preferred, along with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Experience

  • Prior experience in cardiothoracic or vascular surgery is essential.
  • Exhibit strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, with the ability to conduct thorough patient assessments.
  • Possess licensure in North Carolina.
