The Clinical Nutrition Specialist will have the chance to make a significant impact on the nutritional well-being of seniors through the development and execution of innovative dining and nutrition programs.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for orchestrating, scheduling, and overseeing the clinical nutrition practice and its personnel. Core duties encompass effective collaboration with relevant staff, engaging in all nutrition-related initiatives, assisting in the establishment of standards, and evaluating the performance of the Nutrition Care Supervisor and Dining Services staff for safety and effectiveness. This role also involves updating policies and procedures tailored to the facility's needs, supporting the Dining Services Director in food safety and cost-control measures, participating in staff recruitment and onboarding, and maintaining professional competencies.

Essential Duties

  • Adheres to and upholds policies, standards, and programs that ensure optimal Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for residents, including conducting malnutrition screenings and individual clinical nutrition assessments.
  • Proficient in the Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) for assessment completion and documentation.
  • Knowledgeable about the Patient-driven Payment Model (PDPM) and its implications for identifying residents at nutritional risk.
  • Contributes to the QAPI program by performing audits and meeting established standards for Clinical Nutrition.
  • Utilizes available resources and equipment to deliver efficient, high-quality care.
  • Involved in the performance evaluation of the Nutrition Care Supervisor and Dining Services staff, fostering their professional growth through education and feedback.
  • Participates in the budgeting process as required.
  • Designs and implements nutrition and wellness initiatives tailored to the specific needs of the resident population.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with other departments to ensure a cohesive approach to resident care.
  • Develops and conducts in-service education programs for nursing and dining services staff, ensuring ongoing training and development.
  • Maintains a safe working environment in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Ensures adherence to NexDine operational standards and client agreements.
  • Maintains professional registration and continuing education as mandated.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local regulations, including anti-discrimination laws.
  • May undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Role

Work Environment

This role is situated in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment. The position may involve interactions within client facilities.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this role include frequent sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to handle or feel objects. The position requires auditory and visual skills, along with the capacity to follow written and verbal instructions.

Travel Requirements

This role does not necessitate travel unless specific training is required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with coursework approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
  • Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program.
  • Successful completion of a national examination by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Maintain necessary state licensure/certification as required.
