Job Description

As a volunteer at Vera House, Inc., you will play a crucial role in supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or elder abuse. This opportunity allows you to gain valuable experience and skills through direct and indirect services. You will work alongside a dynamic team, contributing to the organization's mission and values.

Direct and Indirect Service Opportunities:

  • Advocacy Volunteer
  1. You will engage in client-facing support, developing strong relationships with individuals in need.
  2. Learnt about Systems Advocacy, making a meaningful impact in the community.
  3. Facilitate support groups, creating a safe space for discussion and connection.
  4. Prioritize crisis support, both in-person and remotely.
  5. Specialize in areas such as LGBTQIA+, Human Trafficking, or other focuses.
Prevention Education Volunteer
  1. Presentations and outreach in schools, nightlife, and other organizations promote awareness and education.
  2. Campus Sexual Assault Advocacy empowers students to take action.
  3. Develop and deliver engaging curriculum, addressing critical issues.
  4. Represent Vera House at community events, spreading our message.
Elder Abuse and Justice Volunteer
  1. Community Outreach and Prevention Events raise awareness about elder abuse.
  2. Train and present on Aging and Elder Justice, equipping others with knowledge.
  3. Co-facilitate Elder Support Groups, fostering connections and understanding.
  4. Provide Information and Referral Services, connecting clients with resources.
  5. Explore Grant-Writing and Stewardship, securing vital funding.
Legal Volunteer
  1. Experience court accompaniment, supporting individuals in the justice system.
  2. Navigate the criminal justice system, family court, and supreme court processes.
  3. Offer Gender-Affirming Care, empowering individuals to live authentically.
  4. Assist with Family Court Orders of Protection, ensuring safety.
Development Volunteer
  1. Fundraise, securing vital resources for Vera House's programs.
  2. Engage with social media, amplifying our message and reach.
  3. Create compelling graphic design, promoting our brand.
  4. Coordinate Special Events, bringing our community together.
  5. Enhance Marketing and Communication efforts, elevating our profile.
  6. Connect with donors and business partners, forging strong relationships.
Clinical Volunteer
  1. Provide Trauma-Focused Therapy to individuals, couples, and families, ages 2.5 and older.
  2. Facilitate support groups, creating a safe space for healing.
  3. Offer Long-term and Brief Crisis Support Services, addressing immediate needs.
  4. Deliver Gender-Affirming Care, empowering individuals to live authentically.
  5. Specialize in areas such as LGBTQIA+, Substances, Human Trafficking, or other focuses.
Alternatives/Steps Volunteer
  1. Facilitate support groups, fostering connections and understanding.
  2. Provide Case Management, connecting clients with resources.
  3. Coordinate Client Coordination and Resource Referrals, ensuring seamless support.

Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must be removed from your own personal crisis situation.
  • A satisfactory background check is required.
  • Completion of agency orientation and basic training on domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse.
  • Attendance required for specialized training to work directly with clients.
