Job Overview

The Outpatient Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing essential tasks related to various technical procedures that utilize prescribed ionizing radiation for the radiological assessment of patients across all age groups.

  • Evaluates patients accurately for the procedures prescribed before, during, and after the examinations in accordance with Imaging Services/Departmental Protocols.
  • Operates specialized equipment, including radiographic, Computed Radiography (CR), Digital Radiography (DR), and Picture Archive Communication System (PACS).
  • Positions patients effectively to capture high-quality images. Administers IV contrast injections, urinary catheterizations, and other necessary skills as required.
  • Handles tasks associated with the Radiology Information System (RIS) and electronic medical records.
  • Engages in the training of students and staff as assigned.
  • May be cross-trained to perform basic laboratory phlebotomy functions and operate laboratory waived testing equipment per CLIA regulations.
  • May also receive training to conduct EKGs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.

Experience: Preferred experience, but not mandatory. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: AART registry and Virginia license required.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry required. Virginia state license necessary for work in an outpatient setting. AHA BLS-HCP certification required.

Other: Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills are essential. All Carilion Clinic employees may be required to travel to various locations as needed.
