Job SummaryWe're seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Engineer I to join our team in Maple Grove, MN. As a key member of our Medical Device Division's R&D IT team, you'll have the opportunity to create technical/functional specifications, support new and existing applications and processes to enable development teams to release medical device software and systems more rapidly.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain databases according to environment strategy
- Engage in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources
- Monitor database size and health
- Create and manage plans for maintaining statistics and indexes
- Understand performance metrics, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot issues
- Manage logins for different types of access - Role based
- Apply RDMS upgrades and updates to production and non-production environments
- Perform database backups and verify restores, prepare for audits
- Maintain and test processes related to business continuity
- Install and maintain administrative and monitoring tools necessary for high-level availability and performance of EMR system
- Follow vendor best practices for hardware and software configuration
- Participate in change control process for all planned application and technical activities
- Collaborate with technical teams and EMR vendor to ensure proactive support
- Troubleshoot and resolve ETL process errors
- Install, update, maintain, and troubleshoot Interconnect-based tools
- Modify ETL processes to meet organizational reporting needs
- Add new tables and columns to the data model as needed
- Work with Business Intelligence Developers to provide data needed for reports
- Respond to emergency and after-hours issues
- Collaborate with partner IT staff to improve processes and infrastructure setup
- Identify manual processes within the organization and automate them
- Contribute to end-user training as needed and be comfortable providing day-to-day support
- Communicate effectively with management to enhance their understanding of the opportunities and limitations of information systems
- Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, adhere to operating procedures, processes, and complete task assignments within the assigned sprint
- Develop necessary documentation, testing, and change control procedures to satisfy internal product validation and update yearly for audit compliance
- Maintain accurate current state application architecture diagrams, documentation, and other data sources in a consistent and replicable manner
- Develop detailed implementation, test, and roll-back procedures for planned changes and follow code promotion model utilizing change request approvals
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
- Technically proficient in analytical database platforms
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Windows Server, and IIS
- Understanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.
- Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures
- Familiar with automated testing and test-driven development practices
- Excellent communication and customer service skills. Able to bridge communication between technical areas and business areas for a full and complete understanding of expectations
- Must be a self-starter and possess good analytical skills
- Comfortable partnering with engineers to understand and solve problems that will enable you to deliver reliable software faster
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment
- Ability to travel approximately 3%
Preferred Qualifications
- RDBMS certification
- EMR based application and (or) EMR based database administration certification
- 5+ years of technical database administration experience
- 5+ years of experience translating business requirements into technical designs
- At least 3 years' experience working in regulated environments
Base Pay
The base pay for this position is $83,000.00 – $166,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
