Job Title: Crossing Guard

West Ada School District is seeking a qualified Crossing Guard to assist students in crossing streets and provide a safe environment for them to access school grounds.

Job Summary:

The Crossing Guard will be responsible for operating standard crosswalk and related safety equipment, providing traffic and pedestrian control, and reporting hazardous conditions and situations to the building Principal or police, as directed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate standard crosswalk and related safety equipment
  • Provide traffic and pedestrian control
  • Report hazardous conditions and situations to the building Principal or police, as directed
  • Perform other related duties as required
Requirements:
  • Basic traffic laws and procedures
  • Basic traffic control and pedestrian safety methods, techniques, and objectives
  • School rules and behavior requirements
  • Disciplinary and behavior modification methods and techniques
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and observe District policies and procedures
  • Ability to provide a safe environment for students crossing and waiting to cross streets to access school grounds
  • Ability to discern and react appropriately to emergency or safety situations
  • Ability to prepare and maintain required records, files, reports, logs, statistics, and documentation
  • Ability to operate standard crosswalk and related safety equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and staff members, and other District personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain student and District confidentiality
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
Essential Physical Abilities:
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs.
  • Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping
  • Must have a valid Idaho Driver's License and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job-related activities
Evaluation and Terms of Employment:

Yearly by supervisor. To be determined by calendar year. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
