Job Title: Propulsion Laser Weld Process Engineer

SpaceX is seeking a highly skilled engineer to join our team in the development and operation of a cutting-edge manufacturing facility for satellite propulsion systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with design engineers to design components and processes that achieve high quality, high rate, and low cost products.
  • Capture component and process specifications that fully control the manufacturing process.
  • Develop process control documentation, including shop floor instructions, machine code, PFMEA, and process control plans.
  • Develop process qualification plans using detailed design of experiments.
  • Conduct process development that fully validates production processes in short time-frames and at low cost.
  • Specify, design, procure, install, validate, maintain, and calibrate process facilities and equipment.
  • Perform routine validation and maintenance of process control documentation to ensure a controlled process.
  • Identify key performance metrics and perform process monitoring and NDT inspections.
  • Report on process metrics and drive to improve GR&R, CPK, and PPK.
  • Identify process quality, time, and cost improvement opportunities and develop business justification.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience with process development and management of complex processes.
  • Previous experience with laser weld joint design and tolerancing.
  • Previous experience with weld joint preparation and cleaning.
  • Previous experience developing high tolerance CW and pulsed laser welding schedules.
  • Previous experience with laser weld process monitoring.
  • Previous experience with setup and operation of laser welding equipment.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Master's degree in the field of process engineering.
  • Proficient in process control techniques of Minitab, SPC, DoE, CPK/PPK, MSA.
  • Lean / six sigma training.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be able to work all shifts and available for weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel for short trips.
  • Must be able to do repetitive assembly operations.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.
