Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Manager to join our team at Amentum. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating traffic activities, including packing, freight terminal, freight consolidation, shipment planning, and transportation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Utilize knowledge of the physical distribution cycle and automation systems (AWS, SBSS, and DO35) to plan and coordinate division workload, assign and adjust priorities, provide technical advice and policy direction, and perform supervisory and personnel duties.
  2. Develop methods and procedures for the transportation of commodities from KDC to customers located worldwide, utilizing various transportation conveyances such as premium service, less-than-truck load, truck load, military or commercial air, or ocean-going vessel.
  3. Determine the most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation.
  4. Direct the scheduling of shipments and notify concerned customers of arrival dates for critical items.
  5. Initiate investigations into causes of damages or shortages in consignments or overcharges for freight or insurance.
  6. Conduct studies in areas of packaging and loading of commodities and evaluate existing procedures and standards.
  7. Initiate changes designed to improve control and efficiency of the traffic department.
  8. Negotiate contracts for leasing of transportation freight rates, equipment or property.
  9. Assist in preparing the department budget.
  10. Manage two subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 44 employees in the Packing && Freight Terminal Department and Shipment Planning Department, and directly supervise three non-supervisory employees to include the Emergency Support Operations Center.
Requirements

This position requires a thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of the entire physical distribution cycle and automation systems (AWS, SBSS, and DO35). A Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Work Environment

The employee will be frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear, and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee will be occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, explosives, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
