Position Overview

The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York is seeking a dedicated Housing Legal Counsel to join our team. As a nonprofit organization focused on civil legal services, we aim to support individuals and families facing housing challenges across our service area.

Role Responsibilities:

  • The Legal Counsel will deliver legal support and advocacy for households at risk of losing their homes, assisting those experiencing financial difficulties and other challenges.
  • Collaboration with governmental and nonprofit organizations is essential to provide comprehensive assistance to those in need, including eviction prevention and securing necessary benefits.
  • Legal representation will encompass eviction defense, tenant rights protection, and ensuring the safety and stability of housing for vulnerable populations.
  • Support will also include addressing utility issues, securing emergency aid, and advocating for ongoing financial assistance to promote housing stability.
  • The role requires a full spectrum of legal services, including consultations, representation in hearings, community education, and systemic advocacy.
  • Expertise in relevant housing programs and data collection will be necessary to enhance service delivery and address systemic issues related to homelessness.
  • Participation in initiatives focused on equity and professional development will be part of the role.

Work Environment:
