Medical Technologist (MT) - Microbiology

Cleveland Clinic Akron General is a world-renowned healthcare organization that has been providing exceptional care to the community for over 100 years. As a Medical Technologist (MT) in our Microbiology Lab, you will be part of a team that works collaboratively to provide laboratory information that assists caregivers in patient diagnosis and treatment.

The diagnostic data you will help generate can also provide vital information for disease prevention and health monitoring. You will use advanced instrumentation to perform testing in various areas of the lab, working closely with the healthcare team to ensure accurate and timely results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels.
  • Correlate abnormal laboratory data with pathological states.
  • Determine the validity of test results and the need for additional tests.
  • Communicate test results, reference ranges, specimen requirements, and other pertinent information.
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from a four-year college or university and one year of training in an approved program with registry (eligible)/certification at a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist level OR meet the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or certification eligible from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT). Certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
Physical Requirements:
  • Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope.
  • The ability to distinguish colors.
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time.
  • Light lifting may be required.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
