Position Overview

The Home Health Aide (HHA) at VITAS Healthcare plays a vital role in delivering compassionate personal care and support to hospice patients, complementing the efforts of family members and other caregivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Prepare and serve meals, aiding patients with eating as necessary.
  • Support patients in mobility and ambulation.
  • Administer treatments as prescribed by the physician.
  • Monitor and document vital signs including temperature, pulse, and respiration.
Additional Duties
  • Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
  • Encourage mental engagement through various activities.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to both patients and their families.
  • Communicate any changes in patient condition to the healthcare team.
  • Educate primary caregivers on basic personal care techniques.
  • Implement infection control practices.
  • Observe, report, and document patient activities and status.
  • Complete mandatory training and development sessions.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must meet the qualifications for a Home Health Aide.
  • Proof of required training hours is necessary.
  • Successful completion of a Competency Evaluation program is required.
State Training/Certification Requirements
- Acceptable in states such as AL, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, IN, MI, PA, TX, VA, WI
- Includes certifications like CNA, HHA, HA, and others as applicable.
Special Requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions effectively.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for job responsibilities.
  • Access to a telephone at home.
Physical Demands
- The role involves physical activities such as lifting and transferring patients, standing, walking, and verbal communication.
- Vision requirements include:
Close vision
Distance vision
Ability to adjust focus
- May require sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
Reporting Structure
- Reports directly to the VITAS Nurse.
- Receives clinical guidance from the VITAS Nurse.
