Position Overview

The VITAS Home Health Aide (HHA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering personal care and support services to hospice patients, complementing the care provided by family members and other caregivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Plan, prepare, and assist with meals, including feeding patients as necessary.
  • Support patients in mobility and ambulation.
  • Administer treatments as prescribed by the physician.
  • Monitor and document vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and respiration.
Additional Duties
  • Help maintain a safe and clean environment for patients.
  • Encourage mental engagement through various activities.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to both patients and their families.
  • Communicate any changes in patient condition to the healthcare team.
  • Educate primary caregivers on basic personal care techniques.
  • Implement basic infection control practices.
  • Observe, report, and document patient activities and status.
  • Complete required training and in-service hours.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must meet the qualifications for a Home Health Aide.
  • Proof of completion of required training hours.
  • Successful completion of a Competency Evaluation program.
