Position SummaryAs a High School English Language Arts (ELA) instructor at Uncommon Schools, you will be passionate about literature and dedicated to creating a dynamic and challenging classroom environment that prepares students for college. You will develop expertise in your subject matter and possess the ability to motivate and inspire high school learners. Central to our English curriculum is a focus on reading and student-led discussions.
Through a variety of instructional strategies, you will encourage discussion, ignite a passion for literature, and foster strong student voice and agency. By the end of the academic year, students will be well-equipped for the challenges of college coursework and will have developed a lasting appreciation for literacy.
Key Responsibilities1. Instructional Duties:
- Deliver a comprehensive literature curriculum that emphasizes inclusive texts and diversity, preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP), SAT, and collegiate-level coursework.
- Guide students in analyzing works by renowned authors, fostering a critical understanding of literature and the world.
- Enhance students' independent and collaborative reading, writing, and discussion capabilities.
- Facilitate student-led discourse, teaching students to substantiate their claims with evidence and critically evaluate arguments.
- Regularly assess student comprehension and writing, adapting lessons to optimize learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with your department and grade-level team to support student success through effective content and instructional strategies.
