The incumbent provides instructions to carry out assigned tasks, makes minor changes in material needs or modifications to assigned work due to material delays or other problems, and communicates work order revisions, material delays, or other problems to the Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor and awaits further instruction. The incumbent maintains time and material records and performs the full range of job duties as outlined in the series concept.
About the RoleThe Access Controls & Security Systems unit is responsible for providing technical support in the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks and security systems to Facilities Services teams, Medical Center, and the University at large. The incumbent is responsible for door preparation, installation of locks, exit devices, door closers, electronic hardware, and associated devices, repairing, and providing preventative maintenance to doors, locks, exit devices, and key fabrication.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical support in the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks and security systems
- Perform door preparation, installation of locks, exit devices, door closers, electronic hardware, and associated devices
- Repair and provide preventative maintenance to doors, locks, exit devices, and key fabrication
- Maintain time and material records
- Communicate with the Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor and await further instruction
- High School Graduate
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with campus departments at all levels, contractors, and design consultants
- Ability to effectively interact with a diverse professional staff both independently and as a team member in a busy environment
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations and reports
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and door schedules
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated theoretical and working knowledge of locking devices, master key systems
- Demonstrated ability to understand written and oral instructions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
- Working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes
- Able to analyze problems, determine solutions, and make decisions based on analysis
- Background check and physical health clearance required
- Demonstrated experience with electronic key system management (such as Keywatcher, Videx, Schlage SMS, or similar systems)
- University and/or Medical Center experience
