Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team at Western Sugar Cooperative. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining mobile and machine equipment in our factory machine shop.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate various machine tools to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
  • Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results.
  • Use measuring devices and techniques correctly to assure proper sizings.
  • Perform milling operations, including drilling, tapping, boring, and conventional milling and lathe work.
  • Perform various metalizing techniques as needed.
  • Perform various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch, and stick welders.
  • Set up and perform tool-post grinding operations, broaching procedures, and babbitt bearing work.
  • Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust, and/or secure heavy objects to perform work and/or observe safety precautions.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Must possess personal machinist-required tools.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge and experience with manual lathes, internal and external thread cutting, tapping, boring, grinding, reaming, knurling, cutting, and parting.
  • Experience with the operation of hand tools, lathes, and mills to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience using measuring devices and techniques to assure exact sizing and proper tolerance on fits.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Motivated, willing, enthusiastic, and able to make independent decisions.
  • Organized and excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work cohesively with others.
  • Identify and repair broken parts and/or equipment.
  • Ability to stand or move around up to 12 hours, including rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to wear all required PPE.
  • Must be able to handle several priorities at one time.
  • Strong customer focus mind-set.
  • Solid leadership and influencing skills.
  • Friendly, results-oriented, and collaborative.
