Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Maintenance Coordinator to join our team at the State of Florida Department of Transportation. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for coordinating and participating in the maintenance activities of the chemical herbicide program and/or the assembly and erection of highway signs. You will assist in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees. You will maintain records of operation, prepare and maintain daily paperwork, and perform manual labor in the maintenance of highways, bridges, and other highway facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and participate in the maintenance activities of the chemical herbicide program and/or the assembly and erection of highway signs.
  • Assist in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees.
  • Maintain records of operation, prepare and maintain daily paperwork, and perform manual labor in the maintenance of highways, bridges, and other highway facilities.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment operated.
  • Perform light maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assist in the repairs of this equipment.
  • Motivate crew members to improve the quality of work performed and assist in the evaluation of others.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with employees both individually and in crew meetings.
  • Train crew members in basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).


Requirements:
  • Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • One year experience in infrastructure construction or maintenance is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • A Class E driver's license is required at time of hire.
  • A CDL Class B Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.
