Direct Support Professional

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our Day Program team at The Arc Carroll County. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their pursuit of a fulfilling life.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide person-centered support and training in job readiness skills, job exploration, social skills, health and wellness, self-care, self-advocacy, math, reading, safety, and community access skills.
- Assist individuals in maximizing independence by teaching various life, vocational, social, and recreational skills.
- Engage individuals in meaningful activities throughout the day.
- Provide personal assistance as necessary, including assistance with personal hygiene, lifting, and transferring.
- Assist with developing knowledge and access of community resources.
- Transportation to various locations within the community.
- Support with the job exploration/job development process.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with no more than 2 current points on record.
- Intermediate computer and keyboarding skills; ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Clean drug screen and criminal record.
- Completion of CPR, First Aid, Certified Medication Technician, and other trainings mandated by the Developmental Disabilities Administration and The Arc.
- Ability to lift/manipulate at least 50 pounds frequently with ability to lift, carry and/or exert force in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally.
- Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing required: Including lifting a wheelchair and repositioning an individual.
- Ability to transfer individual from a chair to vehicle, bed to chair. Ability to position individual on a sling or Royer lift. Ability to physically secure individual in a wheelchair to the van with tie-downs.
