Job Summary

To provide expert child abuse evaluations in the Child Advocacy Center and consultations for patients at Women and Children's Hospital.

The physician will be available for expert consultation on patients outside of Women and Children's Hospital for possible child abuse and neglect and will be available for court appearances as an expert witness.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical expertise and consultation for the unit to enhance provision of high-quality care and efficient utilization of resources consistent with quality clinical practice.
  • Act as an educator and/or consultant for residents and medical students on clinic rotation.
  • Monitor and review patient records and reports to assure quality care and desirable outcomes.
  • Ensure that provider coverage and provision of care meets the needs of patients.
  • Participate in Unit Collaborative Practice Committee to problem-solve and address issues affecting patient care and outcomes.
  • Review unit-specific policies and procedures and participate in development of updates as indicated.
  • Make recommendations regarding equipment and supply needs, in collaboration with the Medical Director and the Nurse Manager, for budgetary planning in keeping with technological and clinical advancements.
  • Provide support to the Medical Director in planning calendar and activities which will provide adequate and appropriate supervision/coverage for residents and medical students assigned to the unit.
  • Support and participate in continuous Quality Improvement (TQM) initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Medical Staff By-Laws/Rules and Regulations, applicable accrediting body Standards and CAMC Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.

Specifically, the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by patients.

Competency Statement

Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
