Position Overview

The compensation for this role starts at $18.50-$20/hour, depending on qualifications and relevant experience. This is a full-time position requiring 35+ hours per week.

The Baking and Pastry Supervisor will report directly to the Pastry Sous Chef or the Executive Chef. This role is essential in supporting production, overseeing quality assurance, and enhancing the profitability of the baking and pastry departments at the designated location. Strong leadership capabilities are necessary, as this position will oversee staff in the absence of the Executive Chef or Sous Chef and must possess comprehensive knowledge of all kitchen operations. The Baking and Pastry Supervisor will also assist in managing daily culinary operations and work alongside baking and pastry apprentices and externs, providing essential support to the leadership team and the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the effective management and operation of the kitchen.
  2. Support in the performance management, development, recruitment, and training of kitchen staff.
  3. Schedule personnel in alignment with staffing guidelines, budgetary constraints, and forecasts.
  4. Ensure a clean and organized workspace.
  5. Participate in the maintenance and proper cleaning of all kitchen equipment.
  6. Order necessary supplies and ingredients.
  7. Conduct inventory checks of perishable and non-perishable goods.
  8. Monitor stock levels to ensure proper rotation and minimize spoilage; ensure reusable items are returned to inventory.
  9. Maintain a sanitary working environment, adhering to health and safety standards.
  10. Assist the Pastry Chef in creating innovative desserts and pastries across all service outlets.
  11. Contribute to the decoration of wedding and specialty cakes.

Additional Duties:

  1. Ensure proper rotation, storage, and dating of all food items.
  2. Guarantee that all dishes are prepared, garnished, and presented to the highest quality standards.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to consistently follow daily checklists.
  4. Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  5. Conduct oneself in alignment with the company's goals, culture, service standards, and core values.
  6. Participate in internal and external events and meetings as required.
  7. Provide general support to leadership and the culinary department.
  8. Exhibit proactivity, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma required; additional training or industry certifications preferred. A culinary degree is advantageous.
  2. A minimum of three years of relevant baking and pastry experience in a full-service restaurant, ideally in a fine dining or upscale environment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional guest service; proven leadership skills with the ability to build and motivate teams.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; ability to quickly adapt to company systems and protocols.
  5. Basic math skills with the capability to develop, read, and execute recipes; must follow prep/order sheets and cooking methods accurately.
  6. Strong organizational skills; ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and maintain attention to detail focused on service and quality.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
  8. Professional demeanor that reflects the company's standards.
  9. Experience in decorating wedding and specialty cakes is essential.
