Financial Reporting Accountant Job Description

Securian Financial Group is seeking a skilled Financial Reporting Accountant to join our Institutional Retirement Solutions (IRS) finance team. As a Financial Reporting Accountant, you will play a critical role in preparing GAAP and Statutory financial statements, collaborating with internal and external auditors, and ensuring the accuracy of accounting transactions processed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly Retirement Recordkeeping reinsurance financial statements and reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounting transactions
  • Develop and document procedures for testing changes to automated accounting feeds
  • Support the preparation and communication of financial information for auditors, insurance examiners, rating agencies, insurance agencies, and company leaders
  • Participate in projects related to financial reporting or financial contracts
  • Reconcile monthly settlement statements and financials from third-party administrators
  • Liaison for reinsurance relationship with third-party administrators
  • Partner on financial reconciliations and collaborate to resolve accounting issues
  • Identify opportunities for and lead implementation of process improvements
Qualifications:
  • Accounting experience with exposure to statutory, management-based, tax, and GAAP for financial reporting and budgeting
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Accounting, Finance, or Math)
  • Demonstrated initiative to serve as a resource for team members and independently manage projects
  • Written and verbal communication skills to provide superior customer service to a variety of business partners
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to review and analyze financial statements and reports
  • Understanding of the structure of data within financial and administration systems
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and meet prescribed deadlines on a continuous basis
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of insurance concepts and products
  • Reinsurance accounting experience
Physical Job Requirements:
  • Ability to utilize the keyboard, computer, and/or mouse for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • Ability to utilize the phone and/or virtual meeting platform for 1-4 hours per day
