Job Title: GIS Programmer/Analyst

Join the State of Montana's Geographic Data Services Bureau as a GIS Programmer/Analyst and contribute to the stewardship of natural resources in Montana.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity for a GIS professional with a passion for Montana's fish, wildlife, and recreational resources who wants to use their experience and skills to benefit a fish and wildlife agency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain GIS mapping applications, data development, and workflow management in an enterprise environment.
  • Collaborate on GIS application development and design, including development of GIS architecture, data management, development processes, coding, testing, and documentation.
  • Monitor applications to ensure health and security of enterprise applications.
Requirements
  • A minimum of five (5) years of programming experience directly related to GIS and mapping applications.
  • Extensive experience with GIS applications, tools, and resources, including geodatabase configuration and management, geoprocessing, and location-based services.
  • Experience using and extending applicable packages and APIs, specifically those from ESRI.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate technical information to diverse levels of management and customers.
  • Working knowledge of biology or natural resource management principles, practices, and methods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving in a lead capacity on GIS application development and infrastructure design.
  • Background in natural resources or biology.
