Position Overview:

The Child Psychiatrist is responsible for delivering specialized medical care and treatment to pediatric patients, adhering to established professional standards and organizational policies. This role requires collaboration with Primary Care Physicians and Behavioral Health Clinicians to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and assess patient referrals from Behavioral Health Clinicians, ensuring thorough consideration of all relevant information.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments for all referred pediatric patients.
  • Deliver direct patient care services within the psychiatrist's area of expertise.
  • Manage medication prescriptions and adjustments as necessary.
  • Document and evaluate patient needs and treatment plans effectively.
  • Consult with primary care providers regarding patient treatment strategies.
  • Provide intervention and referrals for patients experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts.
  • Maintain a culturally and linguistically sensitive practice, utilizing interpreters and additional support as needed.
  • Offer counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy for patients and their families, considering their unique cultural backgrounds.
  • Refer patients to specialists and other healthcare practitioners as appropriate.
  • Review patient records to ensure adherence to treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to promote patient education and rehabilitation.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with fellow physicians, behavioral health clinicians, and administrative staff.
  • Provide consultation for mental health emergencies to on-call physicians.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the Patient Care Committee.
  • Maintain productivity in line with contractual agreements.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to the verbal and non-verbal communications of patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Uphold patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ensure dignity in the delivery of care.
  • Exercise sound judgment in resolving clinical and non-clinical issues.
  • Act independently and make informed decisions based on clinical judgment.
  • Anticipate and address potential problems proactively.
  • Participate actively in the interdisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to clinic activities such as case reviews and protocol development.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to primary care team members regarding psychotropic medications and mental health issues.
  • Engage in community outreach to identify and educate potential patients.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Exhibit professionalism and courtesy towards patients and colleagues.
  • Attend all required meetings and supervision sessions.
  • Commit to ongoing medical education and training to maintain clinical competence.
Quality Assurance:
Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of quality goals for psychiatry and mental health services within the organization.

Qualifications:
Possess current licensure and certifications.
Board certification in Adult Psychiatry is required; additional certification in Child Psychiatry is advantageous.
Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Working Environment:
Work within a busy community health center, with potential for long hours and rotating on-call responsibilities. Exposure to patient blood and body fluids may occur.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift small equipment and boxes not exceeding 20 pounds. Primarily sedentary with some interoffice walking required. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for reading and holding conversations is necessary.
