Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and assess patient referrals from Behavioral Health Clinicians, utilizing all pertinent information.
- Conduct psychiatric diagnostic evaluations for all referred pediatric patients.
- Deliver direct patient care services, focusing on mental health expertise.
- Manage medication prescriptions and adjustments as necessary.
- Assess, plan, document, and evaluate the needs and treatment of patients.
- Consult with primary care providers regarding treatment strategies for patients.
- Provide intervention and referrals for patients exhibiting suicidal or homicidal thoughts.
- Ensure culturally and linguistically sensitive practices, employing interpreters when needed.
- Offer counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy for patients and their families, considering their unique cultural contexts.
- Refer patients to specialists and other healthcare providers as required.
- Review patient records to ensure adherence to treatment plans.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to promote patient education and rehabilitation.
- Maintain productive relationships with physicians, behavioral health clinicians, and administrative staff.
- Consult with on-call physicians regarding mental health emergencies.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives related to patient care.
- Maintain productivity in accordance with contractual agreements.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to verbal and non-verbal communication from patients, families, and colleagues.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Ensure dignity in the delivery of care.
- Exhibit sound judgment in resolving clinical and non-clinical issues.
- Act independently and make informed decisions when necessary.
- Anticipate potential challenges and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
- Participate actively in interdisciplinary healthcare teams, contributing to various clinic activities.
- Provide training and technical assistance to primary care team members regarding mental health and psychotropic medications.
- Engage in community outreach to identify and educate potential patients.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Exhibit professionalism and courtesy towards patients and colleagues.
- Attend required meetings and supervision sessions.
- Enhance clinical skills through ongoing education and training.
Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of quality standards for psychiatric and mental health services.
Participate in the development, review, and revision of policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Possess current licensure and certifications.
Board certification in Adult Psychiatry is required; additional certification in Child Psychiatry is advantageous.
Bilingual candidates are preferred.
Working Environment:
Operate within a dynamic community health center environment. Occasional extended hours may be necessary, along with rotating on-call responsibilities. Potential exposure to patient bodily fluids may occur.
Physical Requirements:
Physical demands include lifting small equipment and boxes up to 20 pounds. The role is primarily sedentary with some interoffice mobility required. Visual and auditory acuity is necessary for effective communication and reading tasks.
